Cologne to Heidelberg!
Today we visited Cologne, Germany, on our way to Heidelberg.
We had a walking tour of Cologne. Most of the city was demolished by bombs in WWII, so the historic buildings we visited have been reconstructed with original materials in the post war period. Fortunately the Cathedral was spared in the attacks, though we learned that they carefully removed all the stained glass windows to prevent damage during the war.
This is the largest, and most magnificent of all the cathedrals outside of St Peters in Rome. It is awesome!!! This picture is just a tiny speck of the whole, which soars for over 400 feet!
We had a wonderful meal tonight – potato soup, chicken, couscous, eggplant, and a warm molten chocolate cake, all served in our private dining room! We have eaten well this whole trip, and are staying in a charming little downtown hotel, close to the river. It’s all good!!!!!Read More
